booktalk tuesday

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by EL Konisburg

IndieBound Description: Claudia knew that she could never pull off the old-fashioned kind of running away...so she decided not to run FROM somewhere, but TO somewhere. And so, after some careful planning, she and her younger brother, Jamie, escaped -- right into a mystery that made headlines.

My Thoughts: I reread this after my visit to the Met and I had forgotten how good it was. Next time, I'm reading this before going to the museum!

I just went back to your post on the met, and wanted to add this about the little dancer's story:
there are a couple of kids books about her :
http://www.amazon.com/Little-Dancer-Anholts-Artists-Children/dp/0764138529/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1307461649&sr=1-1
and they even mention a translation in Chinese: http://www.amazon.com/Little-Dancer-Chinese-Catherine-Anholt/dp/9867428544/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1307461753&sr=1-4

It used to be one of my daughter's favorite bed time story.
Thanks for the book recommendation!

After my daughter read this, we went to the Met. I gave her a map of the museum and she took me to all the places she could find that were mentioned in the book. It was a fun thing to do. At that time, the Met even sold the movie with Lauren Bacall.
It is always a fun book to reread.

I love this book. It was one of the reasons I wanted to work in a museum when I grew up. I did work in an art museum for awhile, and it was just as exciting as it was in the book.
