summing up summer in our garden

It's the Autumn Equinox today which means the summer is over!

Like this blog, due to the focus on the new novel (When the Sea Turned to Silver, the title has changed so many times I have to repeat it so that it sticks in my head), everything in the yard became a bit neglected. But even overgrown, the garden still had its charm.

our overgrown yard is still kind of pretty, I tell people we were going for that "natural look."

Maybe because Rain Dragon didn't notice the weeds. She waited eagerly everyday for something to ripen so that she could pick.

Sometimes she didn't even wait for things to ripen:

"but the dragon likes green tomatoes!"

But finally, there peas and beans to pick:

The beans were appreciated:

But the peas much more so, feasted upon:

as well as played with:

"I'm having a pea party!"

And then our overgrown jungle of plants had new treasures to find:

tomatoes:

and one tall sunflower, to match our windspinner:

A nice little harvest:

and a lovely summer:

The garden is showing great promise:

The peas are now taller than  Rain Dragon:

The weather has been a yo-yo--warm to cold, dry to wet; and the garden, much to Rain Dragon's chagrin, been slow to grow:

The daily inspections have been a disappointment to her:

and it seemed we were much better at growing clover than anything else:

But, finally, the garden has begun to improve:

And one day...

We started the garden so early this spring that Rain Dragon was still bundled up when we planted the seeds:

So, for what seemed a long time, we seemed to have more of a windspinner garden than anything else:

But, finally, things began to sprout:

And now, they are starting to grow:

Falling leaves have covered Rain Dragon's little garden (that never bloomed).  It's time to pull out the wind spinners:

Summer is definitely over and it looks like the garden will soon be no more. But we'll harvest as much as possible.

We probably don't need a wheelbarrow, but someone insisted:

As she was convinced there was still a big crop of carrots:

We did much better with the tomatoes, beans and onions, however. And we would've had many more peas if they hadn't all been eaten as soon as they were picked:
