on my desk monday

On my desk floor is the quilt Rain Dragon was given in Florida!

It's so lovely! I have to show it off more! The quilt squares were drawn by some awesome young readers from the FCC in Jacksonville:

who also made dumplings because you have to keep your strength up while you are quilting

They also (with help from their equally awesome mothers) pieced the squares and sewed it:

Here's some photos of the quilt close up:

Isn't it great? I have to say, Rain Dragon and I are very quilt-rich! We have her 100 Wishes quilt,  the gorgeous one by Winifred Weng and now this beauty! I think I'm going to have to learn how to quilt myself so I can add to our treasures.

Because Rain Dragon can't get enough of them:

Thanks so much, FCC Jacksonville!

Grace, What I did not have the chance to tell you is that the girls in our book club asked me if they could make you a quilt during the discussion of the Year of the Rat. We were talking about how Pacy and Melody made squares for their classroom quilt.I am a teacher, and a class once made a quilt for me, so I had a pattern to go by. Laurie volunteered to piece your quilt squares together. I thought you would want to know how the quilt project grew from a discussion of one of your books. Rain Dragon's quilt was really a culmination of our book club author study. We knew you were coming to Jacksonville and we wanted you to know what a personal and profound impression you are making on our girls. With love and thanks, Susan and Mandy Tudor

Aww...love seeing the quilt being enjoyed! Our little girls group had a great time making their squares at our Dim Sum lunch! We are looking forward to our next Grace Lin book! :)
